All About Me
My name is Laura. I was born on December 29, 1962. That makes me a Capricorn. I'm pretty much as described by Astrology Online, as follows: Capricorn is one of the most stable and (mostly) serious of the zodiacal types. These independent, rocklike characters have many sterling qualities. They are normally confident, strong willed and calm. These hardworking, unemotional, shrewd, practical, responsible, persevering, and cautious to the extreme persons, are capable of persisting for as long as is necessary to accomplish a goal they have set for themselves. They are reliable workers in almost any profession they undertake. They are the major finishers of most projects started by the 'pioneering' signs; with firm stick-to-it-ness they quickly become the backbone of any company they work for. The swings in mood are not the only reason some Capricornians deserve the adjective based on their name - capricious. They can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle for the quiet, reserved individuals they seem to be, and they also have a tendency to ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy. In certain individuals in whom the characteristic is strong, the temptation to do this has to be resisted with iron self-control. Another unexpected quality in some Capricornians is an interest in the occult which persists in spite of their naturally skeptical turn of mind. Their intellects are sometimes very subtle. They think profoundly and deeply, throughly exploring all possibilities before deciding on a 'safe' alternative. They have good memories and an insatiable yet methodical desire for knowledge. They are rational, logical and clearheaded, have good concentration, delight in debate in which they can show off their cleverness by luring their adversaries into traps and confounding them with logic. According to the Keirsey Temperament Sorter, I am an INTJ. (It all kind of fits in with the Capricorn thing.) For others of the INTJ type, there's an INTJ home page. In Chinese astrology, I am a Tiger. Sadly enough, I think I have more of the unfavorable characteristics of this sign than I do favorable ones. (Bad: Impulsive (no), Hot-headed (can be), Restless (very), Disobedient (sometimes), Vain (no), Stubborn (yes); Good: Enthusiastic (yes), Optimistic (no), Courageous (yes), Bold (not even remotely), Sociable (nope), Energetic (yeah, right).) I have long dark brown hair with a lot of dark red highlights. (And a little too much gray for my age, I think.) My eyes are green. I'm under five feet tall. (My friends in high school used to call me Munchkin.) I am the youngest of four adopted children. I have two brothers and a sister. One of my brothers is only sixteen months older than I am, and we are very close. I don't see my other siblings very often. My parents were doctors; both are now retired. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary two years ago. It's amazing to me, really. My family is located on both coasts, although most of us live on the East Coast. We don't do holidays together. I was born in Maine, went to college in Ohio, and now I live in Pennsylvania. I have a double degree in English and history, with a minor in religion. I work in the publishing industry now. I used to be an editor, but when the Web started booming, I found myself the Webmaster at my company. I like my job most of the time, although I've had to deal with a few "unfortunate" bosses. The latest unfortunate boss is gone, baby, gone, and I have a new boss, who seems to be working out okay. I am single by choice now. My SO died in a car accident several years ago, and since then, I haven't met anyone I want to take a chance on. I share my living quarters with one very spoiled cat and many stacks of books. When I'm not working or online, I am usually reading. I read almost everything, but my current favorites are mystery and fantasy. I also write, and I design beaded jewelry. I love jazz, blues, and classical music. Vintage rock is great, too. I have a definite weakness for Broadway musicals. I've seen a few on tour, but I've never been to Broadway. Someday. Where other people practiced accepting an Oscar, I always practiced my acceptance speach for a Tony. I used to be in musicals in high school and I still love to sing. I played the piano when I was younger. I had an electronic keyboard now, but I don't play as much as I should. I also played the clairinet and the flute. My grandmother was an opera singer, so music was always a big part of my life growing up. When I can't find the words on my own, I can usually find a song that gets my point across. I have a very musical memory. I associate parts of my life with certain songs or albums. I enjoy taking long walks in cemeteries. I have since I was in high school. I am a very good swimmer, although I'm not fond of the water in general. I have a deep-seated fear of clowns. My favorite color is green. My favorite vegetable is spinach. If I had to pick a last meal, it would probably be roast chicken with stuffing, mashed potatoes, spinach, and homemade rolls. Chocolate mousse for dessert. Whatever else there is to find out about me, you will find in in the journal.
